The Man with the Cloven Thumb

by Elliott Fisher

In the near future, nation-states have collapsed and given way to a powerful corporatocracy. Rae works as a metastasis™ engineer, shepherding groups of employees into simulated realities to adjust their minds and maximise profits. Out of love with life, her only solace is binge-watching television series, but she is thrown off her sofa and into a fight for survival when a rebel agent infiltrates her work.

Dismissed to the Remilitarised Zone, she finds herself a soft target for the corporatocracy’s blood-thirsty new amusement – war tourism. If the armed hordes of middle management don’t finish her off, then perhaps a band of exiled rebels will – rising up against the ruling classes isn’t as easy as it used to be. And the appearance of a peculiar man with a remarkable thumb has Rae doubting her own sanity.

With a stealthy new pandemic threatening to render mankind infertile, Rae is set on a collision course with the board of a dominant and amoral corporation. Catastrophe looms in every direction. If there’s any hope of redemption, she must look within.
